Foundations Fest 2026
Help bring new plays to life.
Theatre Aurora is inviting actors to audition for Foundations Fest 2026, a one-day late-summer festival of staged readings featuring short, unpublished works by local playwrights.
Foundations Fest is built to connect writers, directors, actors, and audiences through collaboration, creativity, and the excitement of hearing new stories on their feet. This is a chance to be part of a supportive, community-minded process focused on new work and local artists.

Theatre Aurora, 150 Henderson Dr. Aurora
PERFORMANCE DATE:
Saturday, August 22, 2026
All roles are open to anyone.
Auditioners will take part in cold readings from the scripts.
No preparation is required.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Foundations Fest is a festival of staged readings, which means the emphasis is on:

-
story
-
character
-
voice
-
collaboration
These are not full productions. The process is intentionally streamlined, with less focus on elaborate technical elements, costumes, or large-scale staging.
WHAT SELECTED ACTORS CAN EXCPECT
Selected actors will:
-
be cast in a short staged reading of a new play or excerpt
-
work with a director and fellow actors in rehearsal
-
help bring a new script to life for an audience
-
collaborate as part of a creative and supportive rehearsal process
-
take part in tech week, August 17 to 22, 2026
-
perform as part of the festival on August 22, 2026
WHY TAKE PART?
Foundations Fest offers actors:

rehearsal space at Theatre Aurora

the opportunity to help shape a new festival centred on local artists and new stories

waived Theatre Aurora membership fees for all Foundations Fest participants

All roles are open to all auditioners

Auditions will be held as cold readings from the scripts

No advance preparation is needed

Foundations Fest is a volunteer-based initiative

Selected actors must be available for tech week, August 17 to 22, 2026

All roles are open to consideration regardless of background, ethnicity, or sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Ages indicated in the breakdown are ages reflected on stage and not actual ages of the actors.
Theatre Aurora is a not-for-profit organization and is a non-union, non-paying volunteer opportunity.
MEMBERSHIP FEES:
Please note that all participants in our productions are required to become members of Theatre Aurora. Memberships are valid for the duration of the season and expire after our Annual General Meeting in June.
Membership fees are $20 for adults and $10 for youth and $30 for families.
You are not required to become a member to audition. When making casting decisions, preferential treatment is NOT given to existing Theatre Aurora members.
