AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
-
We welcome all ages and genders to audition for any of these characters, except where it is noted that we are looking for the Panto Dame. If you want to participate and have fun and entertain people, we are looking for you!
-
Please come in with a short story about the topic of your choice. One to three minutes is all you need. We would like to see who you are and what kind of role we can imagine you in. We may ask you to stay and read a bit of the script, or your story may give us all we need to know. We appreciate you taking the time to come and see us! Good luck with your audition and have fun!!
-
Please bring two contrasting selections that best showcase your vocal abilities, with one being a comedic selection. Backing tracks are preferred but sheet music accompaniment is also acceptable. All characters in the show will sing in big production numbers with some characters featured in musical numbers.
-
There will be a group dance call. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in.
-
Arrive early to complete an audition form.
-
REMEMBER: Casting is subjective and completely based on someone else’s opinion. Sometimes casting decisions are based on age, looks, height, or how you look next to other cast members. You will not get cast in every role you want and sometimes you won’t get cast at all. If you are not cast in this show, you should still celebrate the fact that you gave it your best shot. If this is not the right show for you, we hope to see you at the next audition.
CHARACTERS:
FAIRY/GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT - She needs to be likeable and personable. She talks directly to the audience and speaks in rhyme. She needs to be comfortable singing.
FRED - He is the nephew of Ebenezer Scrooge. He is likeable and has a rapport with the audience. Singing is an asset.
EBENEZER SCROOGE - He is the villain of the piece. Being comfortable responding to a heckling audience is a must. He is a character we love to hate. Singing is an asset.
BOB CRATCHIT - This character is the downtrodden clerk under Scrooge’s employ. If he could be slight of build, that would be good, but not mandatory. Doesn’t have to sing solo, but Bob does sing with the chorus
PHIL ANTHROPIST - A character role. He can be any age, but Phil is the oldest living character in the play. We can age up this actor and have fun with this caricature.
MRS. CRATCHIT - The Dame. This should be a male in a dress. Not a female impersonator. This is a traditional panto character role. She speaks directly to the audience and is fun and festive.
BELLE - The fiancé of Fred. Think Mrs. Patmore from Downton Abbey. Or a young French maid. Lots of room to explore with this character.
JACOB MARLEY - Scrooge’s departed business partner. (A ghost) Jacob is the one who sets up the whole plot for Scrooge. This character should be somewhat imposing.
AUSTIN POWERS - A character who lives in the 60&70’s. The ghost of Christmas past. Think “groovy baby”. Over the top smarmy and fun and funny. Loveable and kooky. Physical comedy would be an asset.
SALLY & CAROL - Supporting roles, they appear at the “past” Christmas office party. They have dialogue and also are featured in two production numbers. Singing and dancing an asset.
FEZZIWIG - A cheesy nightclub singer. He always holds a microphone and sings most of his dialogue because he is a cheesy nightclub singer. Think powder blue tux. Manicured nails and perfect hair. Lots of gold chains.
GHOST OF CHRISTMAS FUTURE - A robot. A monotone, mechanical sounding voice for this character. Some robotic movements would be an asset. This actor will also participate in production numbers.
MONSTER/DIGGER - Supporting roles. Not a lot of dialogue, but definitely in the group/chorus production numbers.
KIDS ROLES - Peter, Paul and Mary: Three of the Cratchit kids. They sing well together. It would be great to have three younger actors for these roles. Age range: 10 to 16. . . or so.
TINY TIM - The smallest of the Cratchit kids. Tiny Tim is small and sickly. He/She delivers the iconic line, “God bless us every one”. Tiny Tim also participates in group numbers
CHORUS - Adults and children (10+)
