Theatre Aurora is now hiring instructors for our Youth Program! 

 

Are you interested in and excited about working with youth and helping to guide them on their theatrical journey? Theatre Aurora’s Youth Program will be back up and running in July and we are looking for dynamic, keen instructors to take the program forward! We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of theatrical training to young people in a fun, inclusive, and nurturing environment. Our program aims to enrich today’s youth by providing them with creative opportunities within the world of theatre that aid in the development of self-awareness, critical thinking, team building. Classes will be held at Theatre Aurora and will include the use of our fully equipped, 150-seat theatre.

Where: Theatre Aurora, 150 Henderson Drive, Aurora

When:

July (4 weeks)

Fall session (September to December)

Winter/Spring session (January to May)

Positions Available: 2

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide mentorship, leadership and instruction for participants

  • Develop lesson plans based on the curriculum provided by, and in consultation with the Program Co-ordinator

  • Facilitate a program of acting, movement, voice, and technical theatre workshops

  • Direct an original or scripted play for performance at the end of Fall and Spring sessions

  • Collaborate productively, positively, and efficiently with the Program Co-ordinator, volunteers, and technical team

  • Be aware of budget constraints

  • Demonstrate leadership and responsibility, hard work and enthusiasm

  • Maintain a professional, highly organized environment and with an attention to detail

  • Actively participate in all designated meetings, rehearsals, and performances

  • Attend production meetings nearing program’s showcase/performance

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in the performing arts

  • Relevant experience with youth programs

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to accept feedback and constructive criticism

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous theatre experience and experience working with youth is required. Preference will be given to those with Ontario College of Teachers qualifications.

 

SCHEDULE:

  • Summer Camp Program (July) – Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Fall and Winter/Spring semesters – Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Two age groups: 

    • Junior – 10 – 13 years of age

    • Senior – 14 to 18 years of age

 

 HONORARIUM:

  • July camp:  Lead instructor - $3200, Assistant - $2400

  • Fall session:  Lead instructor - $1920, Assistant - $1440

  • Winter/Spring session:  Lead instructor - $2560, Assistant - $1920
